A Natural Desert Family Session in Tucson, Arizona
The Kessler Family was such a dream to work with! Taylor, the sweet mama, had a vision of a creating a dreamy desert family session in Tucson with a natural vibe during golden hour. I really feel like we nailed this one! We photographed their session in Tucson Mountain Park. It’s brimming with breathtaking, natural desert landscape which was the perfect backdrop for their family session.
Bringing a Vision to Life with Outfit Styling
In order to bring Taylor’s vision to life, it was important to focus the preparation work on outfit styling. Your family’s wardrobe sets the tone of your session and can have a dramatic impact on the final results. If you want to achieve a particular vibe, the color palette you choose for coordinating your outfits is key.
To help achieve Taylor’s idea of a natural styled family session, we chose a neutral and light color palette for their wardrobe. I love the way this turned out in the desert at golden hour. The natural tones really compliment the desert landscape and help the images feel lighter and less bold.
Styling and shopping for outfits for your family session can feel overwhelming. This is why it’s important to me to help my clients with the styling process so that the pressure is off! I sent Taylor a vision board and a few shopping links to help her pick outfits that would give off that dreamy, natural feel for their photos.
Family Sessions with Little Ones
Taylor and Chance have the sweetest two-year-old little boy, Charlie. Like most toddlers, he was so playful and full of energy! The trick to photographing young children during a family session is to embrace their playfulness and incorporate it into the session.
You want to remember your littles in this stage exactly as they are. There’s no need to force them to sit still and be “perfect” for the sake of family pictures. I try to get parents to actively engage with and play with their kiddos so that they forget I’m even there. This produces the best results and really captures your family’s true personalities.
